Hello again, Steve!
I was in North Carolina, etc., this past Spring, doing research on my Fuller, Abernathy, and Duke lines, and found something very interesting: While at the Granville County Library, in Oxford, NC, I happened to see a book: "Records of Estates, Bertie County, North Carolina, 1788-1800."
In it, I found quite a few Mizells, Smithwicks, etc., and just as the library was closing, (wouldn't you know) I was thumbing through the index, and there, staring at me, was the surname, GLISTON! As we were being ushered out - by a somewhat impatient librarian, I pleaded with her to at least let me copy the index page, as I was on my way to Virginia, and could not return. Well, long story short; I have the index, but have been unable to find a copy of the book anywhere. (I don't have the author, or the publisher.) I don't know if you know of, or have seen this book, but I think it may hold the answer (or a good clue) to the source of Gliston Mizzell's given name. (Maybe also, the identity of Prudence unknown, or the wife of Gliston's father, Mark.)
Let's see: Gliston-to-Galiho__Glisson__Glisso__Gliso__Gliyo...Quite a stretch, yes(?) Here are the first names of the Gliston's: Ann, Arthur, Burwell, Daniel, Elizabeth, John, Mary, Sarah, Sary, and Walter. - (Could Gliston W. Mizell be Gliston Walter Mizell?) - Note: There are many Glisson's in that area, as well; none in the book, however.
Regards,
Otis Fuller
