Foster County Independent, Carrington, North Dakota
Mrs. Mitter, 33, Taken by Death
Daughter of Mr and Mrs. S.T. Packard Dies in Iowa: Leaves Two Children
Mrs. C. W. Mitter, daughter of Mr and Mrs. S.T. Packard of Carrington, died on Christmas day at her home at Cedar Rapids, IA, following a brief illness believed caused by a tumor of the brain.

The message announcing her death arrived at the Packard home on Christmas evening. Mr. Packard and his daughters, Mrs. F. L. Ganske and Bernice Packard of Carrington, and Mrs. Halvor Norheim of Juanita, left at once to attend the funeral services.

Mrs. Mitter, formerly Belle Packard, was 33 years old. She was born at the family's old home at Santiago, MN. She attended high school at Anoka, MN, and college at St. Cloud, MN, then came to North Dakota to teach school, teaching two years at Melville, and one year at Montpelier. She began a term of school at Grace City at the outbreak of the war and resigned to go to Washington, D.C., on secretarial work for the government. There she met and married Mr. Mitter, who had enlisted in the navy. After the war they made their home in Cedar Rapids, where Mr. Mitter returned to his work as a Western Union operator.

Two children were born to them, Wayne, 9 years old, and Eleanor, 7. Mrs. Mitter had continued her studies at night school since her marriage and had planned to get a college degree.

Surviving her are her parents and three sisters, and a brother, George Packard, who lives at Tacoma, Washington.
