Have just gotten back after many years and beginning again to research my Mitchell/Hardwick family.
My ancestor John Mitchell b 2 Jan 1761, allegedly b in Bedford Co., VA, although there are sources that state that he was b in Sussex Co.(There may be two John Mitchell's of about the same age.)
My ancestor John Mitchell, (Sr.) b 2 Jan 1761, died 18 Jan 1833 in Robertson Co., TN. He married Elizabeth Ann Hardwick, daughter of Robert Hardwick.
John, Sr.’s son John Mitchell, Jr. (m Joanna Murphy) died 16 Nov 1831 in Robertson Co., TN. The latter's son William C. Mitchell's descendant participated in the DNA study.
John Mitchell (Sr.) married 2 Jan 1784, although they secured the license 28 Dec 1783 in Bedford Co., VA. His wife, Elizabeth Ann Hardwick, b abt 1766 VA, d abt 1830 in Robertson Co., TN.
Elizabeth Ann's father Robert Hardwick b abt. 1740 in VA, d bet. 1820-1830 Henry Co., KY. This Robert was her father & not brother is somewhat substantiated with the references that Robert died in Henry Co., “VA.” Also considering his age of over 45 in 1810….
Robert went before 1810 to Henry Co., KY. His immediate neighbors there in 1820 census were Thomas W. Mitchell (26-44); George K. Mitchell (45 & over); & Edward (45 & over) & wife only. Edward could be the father of Thomas W & George K; both latter two had children at home.
>Robert Hardwick, 1810 census: Henry Co., KY: Males - 10 thru 15: 1; 45 and over: 1; Females 26 thru 44.
>1820 census: West Port, Henry Co., KY, August 7, 1820. Males - 26 thru 44: 1; 45 and over: 1; Females - Under 10: 1; 26 thru 44: 1
>Jane Hardwick, census 1830, Henry Co., KY: Males - 15 thru 19: 1; Females - 15 thru 19: 1;40 thru 49: 1. This family not found in the 1840 census.
Robert Hardwick’s first wife was Elizabeth (source says she was dau of Lane Jones & Ann Elizabeth Barber), and she may have died in Robertson Co., TN or died quickly after moving to KY. Robert in 1810 census of Henry Co., KY, had a male b bet 1795-1810; female 26-44 (Jane).
Robert m a second time bef 1810 to a Jane b bet. 1881-1890-per 1830 census & a son b bet 1795-1800. In the 1820 census, Robert’s young son was there, 10 years older, and Robert had a dau b bet 1810-1820, who would be a child of the second wife.
Sources state that Robert Hardwick died in Bedford Co., VA -others for the most part say that Robert died in Henry Co., VA, with some sources showing d "GRAYSON, HENRY CO., VA." I could not find a "Grayson" in Henry Co., VA.
In KY, there was a town no longer in existence in Henry Co, called "Grayson" & one called "Hardwickburg." ROBERT HARDWICK b abt. 1740 VA, DIED assumingly AT GRAYSON, BUT most CERTAINLY HENRY CO., KY (not VA)
Can anyone provide the info about son born to Robert & ?Elizabeth about 1795-1800 or the daughter of Robert & Jane b bet 1810-1820 in Henry Co., KY?
