OH man Ray.... where to start? Let's start at the bottom which is supposedly the beginning. You are mixing different Mitchell families together and unfortunately, it's been done for years.

I'm going to put my annotations in caps as you can't do another color here.

Descendants of John Mitchell
1 John Mitchell 1682 - 1771
.. +Mary Boyd 1684 - 1771

I'VE REALLY NOT SEEN ANYTHING THAT CONVINCES ME THAT JOHN AND MARY WERE THE PARENTS OF THE MITCHELLS WHO APPEAR IN LUNENBURG, THE PART THAT LATER BECAME BEDFORD, IN THE EARLY 1750'S. JOHN AND MARY SUPPOSEDLY ARRIVED FROM IRELAND WITH 2 SMALL SONS C 1720 AND FOLLOWED HER FATHER, REV ADAM BOYD DOWN FROM NEW ENGLAND TO PA. THEY FIRST APPEAR IN DONEGAL TWP, LANCASTER CO, PA ON THE 1722 TAX LIST.

NITA WALDEN AGATE POSTED 9/10/2001:
The book "Kentucky Genealogy and Biography" Vol. 5, p. 209 edited by Thomas
Westerfield has a biography of Thomas Mitchell b. 16 June 1768 Rockbridge
Co., VA. Thomas was the son of John Mitchell and Margaret Porter. John
Mitchell was the son of John Mitchell and Mary Boyd. The book states "John
Mitchell and Mary Boyd immigrated from Ireland when their two children were
very young. They appeared in Lancaster Co., PA in 1721. They lived there
until 1737 when they moved over to the Virginia frontier to the area known as
Augusta Co., VA. The area in Virginia later became Rockbridge County."

THE CHILDREN OF JOHN AND MARY BOYD MITCHELL WERE QUITE A BIT YOUNGER THAN THE MITCHELLS OF EARLY LUNENBERG CO, VA - JAMES, ROBERT, AND DANIEL. IF THERE IS A CONNECTION, IT IS NOT THROUGH JOHN AND MARY.

... 2 Eleanor Mitchell 1708 -

NOT A SON OF JOHN AND MARY...

... 2 Robert Mitchell 1714 - 1799 BEDFORD CO, VA
....... +Mary ENOS 1718 - 1799
......... 3 James Mitchell - 1785
............. +Margaret Caldwell 1711/12 - 1791 (THEY HAD NO SON NAMED JAMES, SEE BELOW, IT WAS ROBERT'S BROTHER JAMES WHO MARRIED MARGARET CALDWELL.)
......... 3 Robert Mitchell
......... 3 Enos Mitchell (THEY HAD NO SON NAMED ENOS)

MARY ENOS WAS THE DAUGHTER OF RICHARD ENOS WHO DIED IN NEW CASTLE CO, DE IN 1748. HE NAMED HIS SON-IN-LAW ROBERT MITCHELL AS ONE OF HIS EXECUTORS. MARY (MARIA) WAS BAPTIZED AT OLD SWEDES, NEW CASTLE CO, DE 8/17/1718. RICHARD'S WIFE WAS NAMED SUSANNAH ACCORDING TO THE CHRISTENING RECORDS.

ROBERT WROTE HIS WILL 4/23/1781 IN BEDFORD CO, VA. HE NAMED SONS:
...ROBERT
...SAMUEL
...DANIEL
...STEPHEN.
...HE NAMED SON-IN-LAW JOSIAS BEDFORD CAMPBELL, HUSBAND OF HIS DAUGHTER SUSANNAH.

THAT'S IT. THE SAME PARTIES APPEAR IN CHANCERY RECORDS AS IT SEEMS THAT ROBERT DIDN'T HAVE CLEAR TITLE TO LAND THAT HE WILLED THE KIDS.

ROBERT JR AND THE CAMPBELLS MOVED TO MERCER CO, KY. DON'T KNOW ABOUT SAMUEL. DANIEL AND STEPHEN REMAINED IN VA.

NOT A SON OF JOHN AND MARY BOYD MITCHELL
... 2 James Mitchell 1721 -
....... +Margaret Phillips Caldwell 1711/12 - 1791

MARGARET CALDWELL, DAUGHTER OF MARGARET PHILLIPS AND JOHN F CALDWELL WAS LIKELY NEAR JAMES' AGE. SHE HAD 5 CHILDREN BY HER FIRST HUSBAND WILLIAM RODGERS AND AFTER HE DIED IN 10/1750 SHE MARRIED SECOND JAMES MITCHELL. SHE AND JAMES HAD 5 MORE CHILDREN.

BY 1772-74 JAMES WAS EXEMPT FROM LEVIES AND ROAD WORK IN BEDFORD CO, WHICH MEANS THAT HE WAS OLD AND INFIRM. HE DIED C 1776 AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE, DID NOT LEAVE A WILL.

THEIR CHILDREN WERE:
JAMES 1754 - 1835 ROBERTSON CO, TN (LEFT REV WAR PENSION STATEMENT)
WILLIAM - BURIED VA
THOMAS - BURIED VA
DAVID - BURIED VA
UNKNOWN

PER A LETTER SENT TO ME BY ROGERS BARDE, WRITTEN BY MARGARET'S SON JOHN RODGERS TO HIS COUSIN ELIAS CALDWELL ((Virginia Historical Magazine, Jan 1911, v 19, pages 92 - 94) HIS 1/2 BROTHERS: WILLIAM, THOMAS, AND DAVID WERE ALL BURIED IN THE SAME GRAVE YARD AS THEIR FATHER IN BEDFORED CO, VA.

... 2 Elizabeth Mitchell 1723 -

NOT A SON OF MARY BOYD AND JOHN MITCHELL
... 2 Daniel Mitchell 1724 - 1775

DANIEL MARRIED A MARY. IT'S THOUGHT BY SOME THAT SHE WAS A CALDWLL, BUT THERE IS NO PROOF. SHE IS NOT A SISTER OF MARGARET (JOHN F) CALDWELL. ACCORDING TO MARGARET'S SON JOHN, MARGARET HAD ONLY BROTHERS.

DANIEL NAMED HIS "BROTHER ROBERT" AS HIS EXECUTOR. MOST OF DANIEL'S CHILDREN MOVED TO KY, INCLUDING SON ROBERT WHO HAD LIVED IN MECKLENBURG CO, NC FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

12/1790 CAMPBELL CO, VA (WHERE DANIEL'S BEDFORD LAND ENDED UP) - DEED SETTLING THE LAST OF DANIEL'S ESTATE, "COHEIRS AND LEGATEES OF DANIEL MITCHELL LATE OF BEDFORD CO DECEASED:"
...DANIEL AND WIFE JUDY MITCHELL (JUDITH PREWITT)
...ROBERT AND OMA MITCHELL (NAOMI SHIPLEY DIED FALL OF 1790, SCALPED BY INDIANS ON THE WAY TO KY FROM NC)
...WILLIAM STURMAN (STEARMAN) AND WIFE MARY (MITCHELL)
...JAMES AND WIFE SARAH MITCHELL (JAMES REMAINED IN VA)
...ADAM MITCHELL (DIED GREEN CO, KY 1846)
__________________________________________________

ACCORDING TO BEDFORD CO, VA ORDER BOOK 1A, DANIEL, JAMES, AND ROBERT MITCHELL WERE ALL ASSIGNED TO WORK ON THEIR ROAD. THIS MEANS THAT THESE MEN LIVED VERY NEAR EACH OTHER. I KNOW THAT ROBERT AND DANIEL WERE BROTHERS, DANIEL SAID SO IN HIS WILL. BELIEVE THAT JAMES WAS ALSO THEIR BROTHER.

THERE WAS AN ENOS MITCHELL IN BEDFORD FAIRLY EARLY. HE WASN'T THE SON OF ROBERT OR DANIEL, PERHAPS HE WAS JAMES' SON. PERHAPS JAMES WAS ALSO MARRIED TO AN ENOS. THE MARY (RICHARD ENOS) CONNECTION COMES FROM NEW CASTLE CO, DE. THAT SAYS TO ME THAT THESE MEN WERE IN THE NEW CASTLE AREA PRIOR TO COMING TO LUNENBURG CO, VA C 1750.

JOHN AND MARY BOYD MITCHELL'S FAMILY HEADED TO AUGUSTA CO, VA C 1737. ROBERT MITCHELL MARRIED MARY ENOS IN NEW CASTLE CO, DE IN 1738. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THESE FAMILIES HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER.

THIS IS LONG ENOUGH. I'LL LOOK AT THE REST LATER!
