Becky,
PERHAPS the following is a "connection."There was a "Jonah" Davidson on the 1810 Head of Households list in Charles City Co., VA (CCCo).I have seen two previous cases in my family where "Josiah" was incorrectly recorded on such records as "Jonah."It is certainly possible that the Josiah Davidson who married Charity Mitchell was the same man who had been shown as "Jonah" Davidson in CCCo (he did not appear on the 1820 CCCo census, so he must have either been dead or in another location...like Williamson Co., TN).In 1840, the Edward Davidson who was on the Williamson Co., TN census was a member of this same overall Davidson family out of CCCo, so that COULD be a clue that the earlier Josiah Davidson in that county was, in fact, related.
Note: It appears that it was the daughter of the above Edward Davidson (Edward had married a Mildred Lavender back in VA) named Ann M. E. Davidson who married Josephus Russell in Williamson Co., TN in 1844.By 1850, Edward Davidson was on the Maury Co., TN census.
What really caught my eye, however, is that the Davidsons in CCCo "trace back" to a David and/or William Davidson who both died in James City Co., VA (JCCo) in 1687 (the Davidson land in JCCo was just west of the Chicahominy River, and that land became part of CCCo in 1720).That David Davidson "I" was married to a Sarah Unknown (but she MAY have been a Hunt...or maybe even a HANBLIN/HAMBLEN...see below), and after David died, the widow Sarah Davidson received assistance with David Davidson's estate in 1688 from a William Hunt and a Thomas HAMBLIN/HAMBLEN.
The above David and Sarah (Unknown) Davidson had a son who was also named David Davidson "II," and when David "II" died in CCCo in 1756, a Stephen Davidson was the executor of his will.I suspect that this Stephen Davidson was a son of David Davidson "II" (but the wife of David "II" is not known). There was also a Stephen Hamblin/Hamblen in the JCCo/CCCo area (might have been a son of Thomas Hamblen)...and I would not be surprised at all if David Davidson "II" (and/or maybe his father David "I") had married a Miss Hamblen/Hamblin.
Note: New Kent Co., VA shares a border with CCCo.
Perhaps the Harris and/or Mitchell families had also intemarried with the Hamblin/Hamblen family in VA....and maybe they knew the Davidsons there.Do you "find" Josiah Davidson and Charity Mitchell on any records after their 1816 marriage, and if so, on what records?
In 1830 and 1840, there were two other Josiah Davidsons in TN from the same overall Davidson out of JCCo/CCCo.One was the Josiah Davidson in Hickman Co., TN, and the other one was his son.....and that younger Josiah Davidson appeared on the census in 1840 in Rutherford Co., TN.
Note: The Josiah Davidson in Smith Co., TN in 1840 was NOT a member of this family (as proven by DNA testing), and the Josiah Davidson in Henry Co., TN in 1840 was almost certainly NOT related to any of the other Davidsons mentioned herein (per a lot of research).
Another Josiah Davidson in this overall family was on the 1840 census up in Buckingham Co., VA, and his son named Josiah Davidson died fairly young in 1825 in Limestone Co., AL.Finally, a John Davidson married a Nancy Potts in Williamson Co., TN in 1817.Their sons included yet another Josiah Davidson (who supposedly moved to KY by the mid-1840).Based on some clues, it APPEARS that this John Davidson was a son of the above-referenced Josiah Davidson who was in Hickman Co., TN in 1840 (and 1850).This John Davidson was apparently dead by the mid-1840s, and another one of his sons with Nancy Potts was the Gabriel Davidson who was on the 1850 census in Hickman Co., TN.
