Oscar Mintz (1800's-1900's) of Newark, New Jersey

To anyone who can help,

My name is John Patrick Mintz (b.1980), son of John Edward Mintz (b.1952), son of John Ervin Mintz (b.1928), son of Joseph Ervin Mintz (b.1890's?), son of Oscar Mintz. I am 22 years-old, a soon-to-be graduate of Rider University, and the eldest of four boys. I am trying to trace my Mintz heritage, but having a lot of trouble...

My great-grandfather, Joseph Ervin Mintz, left home at sixteen. He was the youngest of something like 8 or 9 kids, all of whom are unknown to us. We do know that his father, Oscar Mintz, immigrated to the U.S. during the second half of the 1800's, and that he ran a tobacco business in Newark, New Jersey. Oscar Mintz was Jewish, but he married an Irish-Catholic woman (maiden name Sullivan?), and she raised all the children Catholic.

If anyone has information about Oscar Mintz, his children, and his ancestry, please email me: mintzj@rider.edu

Thank you!
-John Patrick Mintz
