Benjamiin Minter in the Herndon household in 1850 was the son of Susan H. Minter who was on the 1860 census with her son Thomas J. Minter, age 10, in Union Mills section of Fluvanna County. Benjamin Minter mar. Mary Ann Minter 6 May 1860 in Fluvanna. He was listed as the son of ___ and Susan Minter and Mary Ann (incorrectly listed as Sally on the Register) was listed as the daughter of ___ and Sally Minter. Benjamin and Mary Ann Minter were on the 1860 census in the Palmyria section . Sally Minter was on the 1860 census listed as a resident of the Poor House. William Lane was the Superintent and was listed with his wife and two children. All of the other residents were listed as paupers and, except for mothers with young children, appear to be unrelated. Benjamin Minter died during the Civil War and Susan Minter, her son Thomas J., and d-i-l Mary Ann with her son John, were listed on the census in Albemarle County in 1870. Thomas J. Minter mar. Susan A. Kirby in 1872 in Albemarle County at which time he was listed as born in Fluvanana County, the son of Haden and Susan Minter. Mary Ann Minter, widow of Benjamin Minter, mar. George F. Brooks in Albemarle County in 1872. Thomas J. Minter and his wife Susan Kirby had a large family. Since Susan Minter's middle initial was "H" then it is possible her maiden name was Herndon and that may why Benjamin was in Lewis Herndon's household in 1850.
