Howard W. Miner of Batavia Private graveside services for Howard W. Miner, 92, will take place at East Lawn Cemetery, Beloit, Wis. Born Oct. 19, 1914, in Wayne, Neb., the son of Earl and Myrtle (nee Gaunt) Miner, he passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at McAuley Manor in Aurora. Howard graduated from Batavia High School, Class of 1933, before continuing his education at the University of Illinois, graduating in 1938. Howard was employed as a foundry man for more than 40 years before retiring from Beloit Corp. in 1978. Howard was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Howard was a skilled woodworker, he manufactured several fine pieces of furniture and wood carved several kinds of birds. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Jeane Roberts; son, Richard (Susan) Miner of Seattle; daughter, Victoria (Bruce) Wilson of Cherry Valley, Ill.; stepsons, Jim (Sylvia) Roberts of Batavia and Dick Roberts of Winfield; granddaughters, Kimberly Miner of Seattle, and Mari and Megan Wilson of Cherry Valley; and grandsons, Kevin, John and Brendan Wales of Seattle. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leona Janette Miner; brothers, Mark and William Miner; and sisters, Elizabeth Ness and Virginia Miner. Arrangements were made by Moss Family Funeral Home, Batavia, 630-879-7900.
