I'll give a rather detailed listing so that you can see how all of these names fit in with my family. If you need more information on anyone, please let me know. Please let me know also if you have any further information to add to mine.
A D.A.R. application written out many years ago stated that Grace Dodge, daughter of Jeremiah & Elizabeth (Chapman) Dodge of Lyme, CT, married to Matthew Miner, but another researcher believes that Sanford Minard was his name instead. Sanford Minard was born about 1775 in CT, according to the 1850 census of Orwell Twp., Ashtabula County, Ohio. Sanford and his family moved from Lyme, CT to Ashtabula County, Ohio in 1811.
The family of Jeremiah Dodge and wife Elizabeth Chapman was as follows:
1. Bathsheba Dodge, born 22 Sept 1769; married first to John BUSH and had three children: Fenner Bush, John Bush, and Amaziah Bush. Her husband died 1800 or earlier in the Lyme area and she married secondly to Peter MURDOCK (b. Ca 1766, son of William Murdock & Jerusha Lay). They (Peter & Bathsheba) resided at Killingworth, Saybrook and Westbrook, CT. Peter died at Westbrook 20 March 1852 and Bathsheba on 9 Jan 1853. They had the following children: Polly, Charles, Delia, Emeline, Zina, and Matthew Murdock.
2. Eusebius Dodge, born 28 July 1771; married at Lyme on 2 Feb 1794 to Anna MERCHANT, whom was born 27 July 1776 at Horton, Nova Scotia. I haven't found Mr. Merchant's first name. I believe that he died when Anna was very young. I believe that Anna's mother was Martha PECK, daughter of Silas & Elizabeth (Calkins) PECK of Lyme, CT & Horton, Nova Scotia. This family moved to New Lyme Twp., Ashtabula County, Ohio in 1811, where Anna died 25 Jan 1838 & Eusebius on 4 Aug 1854. (I descend from this line)
3. Grace Dodge, born 15 Sept 1773; married Matthew Miner OR perhaps SANFORD MINARD. Grace died 24 Sept 1825.
4. Elizabeth Dodge, born 25 Sept 1776; married, I believe to Jeremiah CONGDON of Lyme. Elizabeth died 28 April 1837 at Lyme?
5. Bethia Dodge, born 6 Feb 1779; married, supposedly to John CLARK. No further information on them.
6. Margaret Dodge, born 24 Aug 1781; married Matthew CALVERT. They possibly moved to Preston and later McDonough, Chenango County, New York.
7. Edward C. Dodge, born 14 May 1785; married to Ursula WILLEY; moved from Colchester, CT to what is now Rome Twp., Ashtabula County, Ohio in 1817, where he died on 10 Nov 1862.
