Dorinda, I'm descended from Moses Milton, a brother of this Elijah. In the first place, I think Elijah's role in this matter after the Revolution was a little bit exaggerated.I have no evidence at all that he ever went to France.I think that for a little while after his father settled in Nelson Co., Ky. Elijah lived in adjoining Washington Co.I live in Lexington (Fayette Co.), and I was surprised to learn that all of Elijah's land records were in Fayette, not Woodford, where Versailles is located.Actually he lived in a part of Fayette quite near the Woodford line, and his family are buried in the Pisgah Presbyterian Cem., which IS in Woodford Co.I found no records on him in Woodford Co. - all Fayette.
If he did anything with Rochambeau, it was to guide his wagons for a certain distance, but I don't know just how far.Maybe it was through land in Virginia that he was familiar with.(The family lived in Prince William Co. before making the move to Ky.)He was in the 1787 census of Virginia in Prince William Co.
I haven't looked at the Colonial Families book you refer to for quite some time, but I seem to recall that it had some mistakes in it.Among other things, one account of Elijah had him with a relatively high rank in the army, while I think he was just a private.
