Jeff's father, Gov. John Milton III had a 7,000+ acre plantation near Marianna, FL named "Sylvania". Jeff was born at Sylvania in 1861 to John and his wife Caroline Howze who married in 1844. Eight of their children, including Jeff, reached maturity: John married Carrie Russ; Virginia married Charles Ely; Elsie married Louis Gamble; Adelaide married Dr. SB Jenkins; Mary married Ed Everett; Ann Howze married Rev WS Simpson-Atmore; and Jeff married Mildred Tait. Gov. Milton was previously married to Susan Amanda Cobb who died 4/25/184; they had one child who reached maturity, Major William Hall Milton (1829-1900), Jeff's half brother. Jeff is a direct descendent of Sir Christopher Milton, brother of the 17th century Poet, John Milton.
