Services held Friday for Florence Shipherd
Florence E. Shipherd, 92, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., formerly of 22 Jamestown Street, Randolph, died at 10 a. m. Monday, Dec. 24, 1984 at the Oak Ridge Health Care Center. She was the widow of Walter H. Shipherd, whom she married June 9, 1916.
Mrs. Shipherd was born July 8, 1892, in Randolph, daughter of John T. and Luna Berray Milroy. She lived in East Randolph, Little Valley and Randolph before moving to Oak Ridge on Oct 1, 1979. She also lived at the Randolph Children’s Home, where her husband was farm manager from 1927-1944.
She was a member of Randolph United Presbyterian Church, Randolph Grange, Pomona State and National Granges, Randolph Home Bureau, and Golden Keys in Randolph.
Surviving are a son, Herbert H. Shipherd of Randolph; a daughter Mary Miller Melson of Clinton, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, who died in July 1967, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Edith Pegler, in 1963; a grandson, John S. Pegler, in 1975; a brother, James Milroy; and a sister, Clara Horton.
The funeral was at 2 p. m. Friday at Van Rensselaer and Son Funeral Home, Randolph. The Rev Harley Acker, pastor of Stockton Community Church, officiated. Burial was in Randolph Cemetery.
Bearers were Carl Miller, Donald Ranks, Edward Miller, James Fowler, Robert Shipherd and Richard Shipherd. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Heart Association or Randolph United Presbyterian Church.
