Hi Scott, We started research some 18 months ago trying to verify claims in three books put out about Samuel Seldon and his family. Straight away we knew a couple were wrong for their surname was Seldon not Selden as they were from Devon England not Sussex or Kent, England. Also the books linked Samuel's father Arthur to John Selden and Margaret Baker of Tarring Sussex. This also was wrong for both John and Margaret had died years before Arthur was born in 1633. We next noticed a lot of people had Samuel's daughter married to Col. Thomas Milner and that she was born in Farring, England in the years 1605 and 1625. This again we knew could not be correct for there is no place in England by the name of Farring and as Samuel Seldon was not born until 1658 and his wife Rebecca Yeo in 1654. We then decided to try and find out who the Col. did marry and when Mary Seldon was born. Since the post that I did on the Milner's we have found the following. 1.We first though that Col. Thomas Milner's wifes Surname was Briggs but after we double checked it turned out to be a different Thomas Milner. There is no mention of his wifes surname in any of the records. He was born on the 2nd January 1619 and that he married Mary in 1655 in Nansemond, Virginia. 2. We discovered that Samuel Seldon and his family first moved to North Carolina from Devon and that four of their children John, Joseph, Bartholomew and Mary were born in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank, North Carolina. Mary was born in 1708 which rules out any marriage or connection between Col. Thomas Milner and Samuel Seldon's family. 3. We did find reference in records in Elizabeth City that the Col's son Thomas born 1670 had married a Mary Seldon. The marriage is listed in the records held in Elizabeth City for marriages between 1700 and 1720 and that in 1719 Thomas Milner married Mary Seldon and that they had one son Samuel born 1621. 4. We traced this Mary Seldon and found that she was born in 1690 and her father was a William Seldon from Devon, England. 5. We are still trying to find out the surname of Mary who married Col. Thomas Milner and we did find one mention that the reason she did not have a surname was because she was a native american but we have not been able to verify this to date.
