Looked up this census, and it says he was an Oysterman.
Possibly Elizabeth is the daughter, age 28.
as the children are 5, 8 and 16.
I do not think Elizabeth would have been 12, and married??

On page No 4.
For Charleston, SC.
It could be John SHOKES living a couple doors down from them? I am not sure if that is an "S" or a fancy "R"?
I cannot make it out on my copy. Also looks like they wrote down Sarah SHOKES and then it was crossed out. Unless the copy is bleeding through from the other side?
