The 1880 federal census shows an Elmer Mills, age 13, in Indian Springs but it is a poor copy and I cannot read who he is living with.

The 1900 census for Washington County, Indian Springs shows Elmer A. Mills, age unreadable; Alice, his wife, age 27; Alta (?), daughter, age 9; Zona, daughter, age 7; Mary C., daughter, age 1; and a brother-in-law, Aaron Drury, living with the family. Elmer and Aaron are both shown as day laborers. The family is living next door to Oscar Mills, age 30; Anna W., wife, age 30; Harry M., son, age 8; Charles A., a son, age 4; David E., a son, age 3; and Robert, a son, 6 months.

1910 Census shows a Harry Mills, head of the house, age 75, farmer living with a son Denton, age 49, a laborer. They live next door to Elmer D. Mills. Perhaps Harry is Elmer's father.

Elmer D. Mills is shown as age 43, living in the 15th District of Washington County on Fairview Mountain Road.
He is designated as a farm laborer. His children are shown as follows: Alta, daughter, age 19; Zona A., daughter, age 17, Mary, daughter, age 10, Elmer F.,son, age 8 and Edith, daughter, age 5. His wife is not listed and may have died.

The 1920 Census for Washington County, Indian Springs District shows an Elmer D. Mills, age 53, laborer, general arm, living with Franklin E., age 18, son, no occupation and an Elizabeth Shaw, age 24, servant for the family.

There is also a Martin Drury family that shows up in this census.

The 1930 Census for Indiian Springs shows Elmer D. Mills, age 63, farmer, Frank A., son, age 28, laborer; Ray Kline, age 21, laborer living with them and a Travis Shoemaker (spelling??), age 24, servant.

There are Mills listed in Washington County as early as 1790 in the census. If you have access to a Maryland library and have a library card you can access the census on your computer from home. Hope this helps. Jean
