J. P. Mills
J. P. Mills after a prolonged illines, died in his home near Bassett Va. Feburary 22, age 70 years.He was a native of Henry county, a son of William and Frankey Mills. Born January 16, 1846, he entered the Civil war at the age of 18 in May 1864 and did galiant service through until the end of the war.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. A.Chapman. Interment at Pleasant Grove Church. Mr Chapman paid high tribute to Mr. Mills' character as a citizen, neighbor, and brother. He was a man of unusual brilliant mind and wonderful memory.
Mr. Mills was married twice, first to Miss Malissa Forbes in 1875. The following children were born to this union. Mrs William Crapt of Los Angeles Cal;, Mrs W.L. Parker of Washington D. C.; Mr B. T. Mills of McDowell W. Va; Mrs E.O. Hall of Danville Va.; Mr George W. Mills of Macon Ga.; and Mr J. P. Mills Jr., all whom are living except J. P. Mills Jr. who died in 1907.
His second marriage was to Miss Callie D. Finney in 1889. Of this union there are two children, R. M. Mills of Edgerton, W.Va.; and the youngest one Miss Mary Mills of Bassett Va.
