Have you found any early records for your John in Eastern TN? His brother James and his brother Samuel were both in early TN records, lived near present day Greeneville, TN in Greene County, which I believe was made from Washington County. Samuel stayed there, James went to Adair Co KY and was on the 1802 tax list there, listed with apparent two sons James Jr and Isaac under him on the list. From there, they went down into middle TN and James was on a record in Bedford County in 1809, giving his married daughter a slave. He appears to have gone back to Eastern TN and is on record in Cocke County there, by 1821, and filed his Rev War pension app there in Cocke County in 1833. Cocke Co is adjacent Greene County.
