Thanks for the refreshingly honest reply. Feel free to email me at [email protected] (that is a small case "L" before the "6", not the numeral "1"). I had forgotten that I had a little material with me but all of my original documentation remains at home.
By all means, document everything. You're on the right track with that approach and you won't regret it. Hey, when I started researching using the Internet I was very much impressed but it didn't take me long to realize that so much of it is just plain junk genealogy.
I don't know if you a familiar with Alan Milliken's newsletter, "The Regarde Bien" which deals with the Milliken surname - if not, then you might want to check it out, here's the link to it:

All issues are online. You might want to look at issue #9 in which he has an article titled: "Robert Milliken of Ballyholm". The last paragraph has an interesting observation. As far as I can determine, no one has been able to document Charles' lineage but from Charles on - they are pretty well documented. If you don't have access to the Ridlon book, it is available on CD as well as being available as a photocopy of the original but that's faily pricey, last time I checked it was about $100 or more. The CD was about $50-$60. I believe that LDS also has it on microfilm so you can always rent it from them but you'll have to view it at their location. They may or may not have microfilm printers, you would have to check with your local LDS center. I've never found an original in any library I have searched. Also, I have been unable to find the book online, a digital version but it has been quite a long time since I have searched. Several years ago, someone was kind enough to send me the section on Charles of Orange County - it's fairly lengthy. As an alternative to the above, when I get back to New Orleans I can copy it for you but you'll have to re-imburse me for the copy costs + postage. That's your call, I'm just making the offer. If memory serves me, the book was published around 1900 so that is a time frame for when Ridlon's research ends. Of course, you need to verify anything Ridlon writes but at least he does give good basic info which can be used as a starting point. Hope this helps. Rick
