Suggest you start with the 1900 soundex, then census record. (Saco, York County, ME). 1900 has month,yr and place of birth for everyone in the household as well as places of birth of their parents. Usually lists only state or country but sometimes I've found town names this way too. If you can establish that Joseph's parents were from this part of Maine chances are good that he's related to the old Milliken line, catalogued in two books by G.T.Ridlon ("Saco Valley Settlements" and "1907 History of Millingas and Millinges") the former is easy to find in larger libraries and a copy of the latter is posted on Rootsweb.
