Conrad Sanger to Abraham Brand:

Know all men by these presents that I, Conrad Singer of the County of Rockingham, State of Virginia do by these presents constitute and appoint my trust friend, Abraham Brand of Derry Township in the county of Dauphin in the State of Pennsylvania my tre and lawful attorney for me and in my name and for my use to make such conytract as he may think proper in order to secure a debt due to me from Christian Coffman of five hundred pouns and interest thereon and ...................

Rockingham County to wit, this day the aove Conrad Singer appeared before me as Justice of the peace for the aforesaid county and acknowledge the foregoing Power of Attorney to be his act and dee, given under my had and seal this 5th day of June 1829.

The originial record were burned and the fragments deciphered as best possible:

In the name of God, AMEN. I, Conrad Sanger, being in perfect mind and memory, calling to mind the mortality of men that it is appointed once and for all men to die, do make and publish this Will and Testament. For the first I recommend my soul in the name of God and my body to the earth from whence it was taken, and as to my earthly possessions I dispose of in the manner as follows:

ITEM: I give and bequeath to................the third of all my movable property.

ITEM: I give to my heirs the plantation that I now live on in the following manner: In twelve months after my death, he is to pay ...... Dollars and so on yearly as long as my wife remains my widow. Should she marry another husband or dies before the above mentioned item is performed, then my son, John is to pay yearly three hundred and thirty dollars and ...... till the sum is paid and likewise my son, Jon is to furnish his mother articles as follows: He is to furnish her twelve bushels of wheat yearly, ..... bushels of rye and ten bushels of corn, one fat hog to weigh no less than .... humdred weight with all the belongings to it and likewise one hundred .... pounds of .................... and a bushel and half of salt and to let her have four ............. to raise on the place and a fourth of the eggs.

ITEM: It is my will that my wife is to have the third of the fruit on the place and my son, Joh shall provide his mother, my wife, ten pounds of coffee, ten pounds of sugar yearly. ................ pounds of wool and two pairs of shoes yearly and my son John is to provide his mother one quarter of flax, fifty pounds of clean hemp yearly and he is to cut and haul her as much firewood as she needs, to the house in which she lives. He shall keep one cow in feed summer and winter and to feed her a horse ready to ride when she wants it.

ITEM: It is my will that my wife is to have a room in my dwelling house and a kitchen and likewise the half of my springhouse and is to have one third of my garden. All these above mentioned items my son John is to find for my wife during her life time or as long as she is my widow. If my wife marries another husband, then she is to have no further privileges in the place not to receive the above mentioned articles. ................ only the movable property shall she have for her lifetime without any reserve. This my son John is to pay on the said plantation the above mentioned.

ITEM: It is my will that my son John is to have my wagon and is to have the choice of my horses. He is to have two of the best of them with their gears and likewise is to have my sheer plow with all belongings to it and the cutting box, he is to have the ten-plated stove. All these mentioned articles my son John is to have with the understanding it is my will that my widow is to take a third of the property at the appraisement before the time of the public sale, and after my just debts is paid the remainder of my property shall be divided among my following children: My daugher Magdalene, daughter Barbara, my daughter Nancy ........., my son Conrad, my son John, my daughter Elizabeth, my daughter Catherine, and my daughter Mary, my son Jacob, my son Daniel, my son Henry, my son Samuel, and my daughter Susanna, the money to be divided in this manner: my daughter Magdalene is to have the first hundred dollard and each to receive one hundred dollars from the oldest to the youngest and if there is yet money left than to being in the same manner from the oldest to the youngest.

ITEM: It is my will that my executors is with the advice of the society where I am connected with to put my four sons, Jacob, Daniel, Henry, and Samuel to some good people till they become eighteen years of age, they are to have schooling to read and rite, when they come to be eighteen years of age they are to be put to trade.

ITEM: It is my will that if my son John and my wife can't agree in the said house that my son John is to build my wife a like house to live on the place.

ITEM: It is my will that if my son John wont take the place in above mentioned manner or dies without heirs then my son Conrad is to have the plantation in the same manner. Further, I appoint my two friends, John Flory and my son-in-law, Samuel Miller, as sole executors of this my last Will and Testament, made or done by me. Therefore, whereunto I have set my hand and seal this seventh day of December One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty-one.
