I have now found a record that states that Samuel Miller of Albemarle and then Campbell Co., VA never married, but he had a long-term relationship with a Mary Davidson (who I know was a daughter of Joseph and Anna (Smith) Davidson, who married in Cumberland Co., VA in 1816).They had five (and maybe actually six) sons together, including a Samuel Miller Davidson and a James M. Davidson (all of the sons were given the surname of "Davidson").The death record for the referenced son named James M. Davidson shows that his father was a Samuel Davidson and that his mother was a Mary Miller....but that was almost certainly not correct (whether the family of James M. Davidson was even aware of it or not).
A living male "Davidson" descendant of the above-referenced Samuel Miller Davidson took the Y chromosome DNA test, but his DNA did not match the DNA of anyone named "Davidson."I guess I now know why.
