The Bump families in Wallingford VT in the 1700's and early 1800's descended from Edouad Bompasse who came on the Fortune in 1621 and was known as Edward Bumpas in the colonies. The spelling became Bumpus and Bump and other variants and Bump and Bumpus were often used by the same person. As far as I can tell, all the the Bumps and Bumpus' in Wallingford came from Wareham and Rochester MA. I hope this helps.
