Millar/Burns, Carnduff, Larne, Belfast, Co. Antrim
This is all the info I have on this family, please let me know if you find a match.
Charles Millar: Lived in Larne, Co. Antrim, N. Ireland. Wife's name is unknown. Lived during the French Revolution (late 1700's). There is a monument erected in his name in Carncastle,(a few miles from Larne) N. Ireland. He was an Orangeman and there is a verse about him that goes:
Charles Millar was a noble master
A man of great honour and fame
He never gloried in a rival
But gloried in a decent man's name.
His Son:
John Millar, b. 1821 Carnduff, Glynn, Co. Antrim, N. Ireland
married abt. 1842 in Glynn to Margaret Lamberton, b. abt 1818 Glynn, Co. Antrim, N. Ireland.John died 12 May 1871 Glynn, Co. Antrim, N. Ireland and Margaret died 14 Mar 1901 in Glynn.John was a master (school teacher?) in Ballysnod school.
John and Margaret's Children:
1) Mary Millar, b. 1852 Carnduff, Glynn, m. abt 1873 to Andrew Burns b. abt 1848 Glynn, Co. Antrim.Mary died 28 Jun 1901 in Glynn.
Mary was a teacher in her father's school at Ballysnod, where her children ended up being schooled.She married Andrew Burns who came from Magheramore, which was a few miles from Larne.Andrew was a first mate on ships and travelled all over the world.
2) Margaret Millar, b. 1857 Carnduff, d. 27 May 1952 Carnduff.She never married. She was head dressmaker in Erins(?) in Larne.
3) Alexander Millar b. 1858 Carnduff, d. 22 May 1936 Glynn, Co. Antrim.Never got married.Uncle left him 2 farms, therefore his father John had at least one brother.
4) Charles Millar.He had a child Charles Millar with his first wife.This son Charles died in 1948.He had 3 children with his second wife: Mary, Alex and Bertie.
His son Alex lived in Larne.He married a woman named Nellie and had 5 daughters and 1 son, all of whom got married.Bertie died at age 14.
Children of Mary Millar and Andrew Burns:
1) Anne Jane Finlay Burns (my great-grandmother) b. 19 Aug 1873 in Larne, Co. Antrim.She married Andrew Johnston who according to family members was a carpenter who worked on the Titanic.This is possible as they were living in Belfast during the period that the Titanic was being built.
Andrew Johnston died before 1925 and Anne travelled with her children to Ontario Canada.
2) Margaret Millar Burns. b. 21 Dec 1875 in Larne, Co. Antrim.
3) John Alexander Burns. Died at age 21
4) Mary Burns. Died at age 14.
5) David Charles Burns. Died at age 13.
6) Joanaretta Burns. Died at age 25 after having married and given birth to a boy named Jim who died also.
7) William Albert Lamberton Burns, married Agnes Ritchie and had 3 children.Mary Thompson Burns, James Wallace Burns and William Davey Burns.
-daughter Mary Thompson Burns married Terry Prappas and had 2 children William and Ted Prappas.
-James Wallace Burns married Linda Maxine Cummings and had 2 children James Stanley Burns and Diana Charisse Burns
-William Davey Burns married Mary Davidson and had 3 children David Burns, Robert Burns and Kathy Burns.
