First of all, Dennis, may I congratulate you on the thoroughness of your research and documentation! As I said, the parentage of A.B. or Barney, or Andrew Barnwell was as yet unproven from my end. Your search from Barney to his parents and Patti's from Martin to children is opposite directions and obviously has not yet yielded the connecting tie for either of you.

I suggest keeping all these theories and use them as additional clues for searching. In pondering - Census takers sometimes asked neighbors for information on families who were not home or because of inclement weather, etc. This could account for the ages listed in the 1840 census for Martin's family as well as the birth state. And secondly, what are Joyce's conclusions to place Barney in Henry's family? I have not searched marriage records for Attala Co., which might reveal more info on A.B.

Both the 1850 and 1860 do show some similarities though. In 1850, A. B.'s son, John, is age 1. In 1860, Barney's son, John, is 11. In 1850 census A. B.'s younger brother, Robert, fits his placement in Martin's family.

Is the Barney J. Miley age 30 in the 1900 Webster Co., MS census related to the above A.B.?

Here are two other contacts that may provide clarification:
Patti N. P. Winningham, 102 6th Ave NE, Magee, MS 39111
Royce Miley, 407 Massey Cove, Carthage, MS 39074
Good luck!! And please keep me posted. callibliss@aol.com
