Robert E. Lee kin to Milams?
I have always heard that my line of Milams- from James Milam of Virginia (son of John of Halifax)was related to the legendary general.
1. James married Martha Winegar Randolph from Virginia. She is probably from the famous Randolph family, one of the First Families of Virginia. The Randolphs are related by blood to Robert E. Lee, President Thomas Jefferson and even Pocahontas. I have never been able to document the details to tidy this up. I continue to work on it.
2. Now I have found some written history that leaves an interesting clue. It comes from a book (digitized by Google) called History of the State of Oklahoma. On page 73 it shows a biography of one Thomas Moore Milam, born in Mississippi in 1872. His parents were John J. and Alice (Cathey) Milam. They were part of the planter class in Miss. before the War of Northern Aggression.
The article says that the family is related to Ben Milam (of Texas fame) and closely related to Robert E. Lee.
I will continue trying to follow up on this tantalizing clue and would appreciate any input.
