Excellent. Some of this information is new to me.The strong family connection to Schelfhout explains why the young Louis Remy Mignot went to The Hague to study, and not to Paris, Rome, or Munich where most aspiring American artists went for training in the mid-19th century.I'd very much like to see copies of any correspondence between Louis and his family.More than 10 years ago I was in communication with some Dutch members of the Mignot clan and was given photocopies of letters written in England by Louis's widow to her husband's half-siblings.She mentioned their only son Remy.I never found out what happened to the boy.
Louis the artist is buried in an unmarked grave in Brighton, England.Someone should see that he receives a proper memorial.
