I searched unsuccessfully for my father's family/ancestors for many years. I knew him as John P. Meyers, and was told he was born in Manassa, Colorado in 1905. After locating him in the 1930 census, which gave his parents' birthplace as New Mexico. My baby book listed my grandparents as Maclowe Meyers and Eliza Meyers; I was told they were dead. I did a Soundex search of New Mexico for 1900 and found similar given names with a surname "Miera" in Rio Arriba County. After joining Genealogy.com yesterday, I found the same family, with slightly different spelling of the given names, in the 1910 census for the same county. This listing included a 6-year old son "Juan" and a 4-month old son "Carlos." I have letters from a brother Charles written in 1932. He spelled his surname "Mier."
I went back to the 1870 census and found a Miera family with a son "Maclobo," age 8. His parents, who would be my great grandparents, are listed as Jose, age 49, and Ruperta, age 28. The census lists 6 children besides Maclobo.
I note that no one has posted to this page in over a year, but I would appreciate any information.
