Alberta, the info below on the MIddleton Family is based on a Harvey Middleton, born 5/22/1914 and died 7/1982 in Ky. I assume it is your Harvey.
The line starts with James Middleton, born circa 1790 (my estimate) in N.C. I dont know where or when he died. His wife was Lurann (or something like that, maiden name unknown) and they had at leats 2 children, Tabitha, born circa 1817 and James Jr. born 2/28/1824 in N.C. James Jr. died 8/20/1900 in Elliott Co., Ky. (NOTE: Elliott Co. was formed 1869 from Carter Co.)
James Jr. (1824) married Darcus Skaggs on 6/6/1844 in nearby Lawrence Co., Ky. They had 8 children, including your Amos Middleton, who was born 1/18/1856 in Carter Co. and died 11/14/1936 in Elliott Co. Darcus died circa 1864, probably in Carter Co., and James then married Barbara Ellen Fultz on 1/18/1866 in Carter Co. James and Barbara then had an additional 5 children.
Amos Middleton married Elizabeth (Betty) Binion 7/27/1875 in Elliott Co.. They had 10 children. including your ancestor, Charles Middleton, born 12/1882. I dont know when he died, but maybe he died 1963 in Carter Co. About 1908 Charles married Nellie Holbrook, probably in Carter Co. and they had 5 children, includng Harvey Middleton, born 5/22/1914 and died 7/1982. I dont know Harvey's wife or children names.
