Middleton, Glenn, Dwight, Collins

I have a conundrum here that's just going 'round and 'round in my head and I can't seem to find an answer. I hope SOMEONE out there has some new thoughts that can help me.

I have an ancestoral Grandmother, Elizabeth Middleton Glenn (ca 1804-1870-80 in N.C.) who married Stephen Collins (1797-1855 in S.C.). They're found in Georgia and Texas as a family. It's trying to tie down Elizabeth's ancestry that's causing my problem.

The only lead I've had is that she's thought to be the daughter of John Glenn and Mary Brooks. BUT neither John or Mary mention Elizabeth in their wills, nor does any researcher, so far as I've found, list Elizabeth as a child of this family. That's checking on Ancestry, Rootsweb, FTM, LDS and such. I've checked census on H.Q. and turned many pages in many books. She's just doesn't seem to be connected with John and Mary.

So, I started looking into the naming pattern. Elizabeth and Stephen had a daughter named Mary Dwight Collins. I found a John Middleton who married a Mary Dwight in 1782 in Tyrrel County, N.C. That looked like a possible, since Elizabeth's middle name is "Middleton", so I searched further..........I found that a John Middleton and Stephen Collins were both living in Monroe County, Georgia in the 1830 census. I got excited.....but the time line doesn't work out. I don't know why the daughter was named 'Mary Dwight", but it just felt right. I searched using only Elizabeth Middleton as a surname........ordered John Middleton's will to check it out thoroughly. Didn't fit.

So, I went back to the Glenn family. I found a John Glenn who won the lottery in 1821 as did a William Middleton in Monroe County. Nothing more there.

Finally, looking at Mary Brooks (above), I found a Middleton Brooks.....not one, but two, and both in Jackson County, Georgia. These dates kinda work out, but I've been unable to get (1) Middleton Brooks will, Book A from Jackson County page 337 and another, probably the son, on page 139 of Will Book B. (2) John Glenn's will is in Will Book B, page 262. Might not prove anything but it's another stone to uncover.

All of these names interlock with one another and it's a giant jigsaw. It just keeps going round and round in my head and I think I'm going nuts. I'm so sure there's a connection..........any thoughts out there?
