Committees Announced for Parties for Benefit of Crippled Children.
President's Birthday Balls will be held Jan 20 in 17 Tioga county communities, with the proceeds to be used in infantile paralysis work.F. LeRoy Smith, of Wellsboro, president of the Tioga County Crippled Children's Society, is general county chairman.
Seventy per cent of the proceeds will go to the Crippled Children's Society and 30 percent will be used for research work.
Only about half a dozen balls were held in Tioga county last year, with he Crippled Children's Society benefitting to the extent of $375.The Society has treated 322 cases in the past decade, Mr. Smith said, with 70 active cases at the present time.Two clinics are held in Wellsboro each year by the society, and weekly clinics are held at the Packer hospital at Sayre.
The following have been appointed by County Chairman Smith as chairmen of th eballs in various communities:Lawrenceville, Miss Catherine Middaugh; Knoxville, Mrs. Earl Robbins; Tioga, Mrs Kenneth Smith; Liberty, Mrs. Frederick Snyder; Arnot, Miss Catherine Feeney; Mansfield, Mrs. Robert Wilson; Blossburg, Miss Agnes H. Stratton.
Elkland, Dr. Harry Williams; Westfield Mrs. Harold VanDusen; Morris, Jack Yoggy; Morris Run, Miss Margaret E Fogarty; Middlebury, Robert P. Lugg; Jackson Summit, Dr. Leon Andrews; Gaines, Mrs. Harry W. Howland; Antrim, Mrs. Margaret Donovan.
