All of those surnames were married to Middaugh's but here is what I have on the earlist Low. Judith 8 MIDDAGH (Dirck 7 ) was born before 21 May 1696, and was christened 21 May 1696 in DRC New York City. Witnesses: Joris Van Nest and Neeltje Hendr. h.v. Jeronym. V. Nest. Judith
died about 21 Jun 1785 in New Jersey. Judith died intestate and her son Dirck was appointed Executor.
She married Cornelius LOW about 1715. Cornelius and Judith resided in Readington, NJ.
Some of the information about Judith's marriage to Cornelius Low (Jansen Courtright) and their
children is taken from a Middagh history of unknown origin. However most of the names and dates
given in the history have been verified using other sources. While a record of Cornelius' and Judith's
marriage has not been found, there are church records where they are listed as the parents. As to the
date of their marriage, Mr. Houston Lowe in his article on the family published in Volume 6 of the
SCHS Quarterly, indicates it took place about 1718 in Somerset County, NJ. Cornelius was born
about 1691 in Readington, Somerset, NJ and died Aug 1763. His will is dated 3/4/1763 and named
his wife and 2 sons as executors..
Cornelius' surname should have been COURTRIGHT. His father's name appears in church
records as "Louwerens JANSEN". Following the Dutch naming custom of the time, his children
were called "LOUWE" which was subsequently shortened to "LOW". This later name was adopted
by his children as their surname rather than COURTRIGHT which most of the others in the COURTRIGHT family used. In 1728 Cornelius purchased 230 acres of land in Somerset County. He and his famuily later moved to a farm near Neshanic. His will which was dated 3/24/1763 and
probated 8/16/1763 names his wife, Judith; sons, Derick, Cornelis, John and Garret; and daughters;
Marytie, wife of Abraham BODINE (a bible record says Cornelius BODINE); Judith, wife of
Johannis VAN NEST, and Antje. Neither Gysbert nor Catalyntje are mentioned.
This information came from Jack K. Middaugh which is on his CD. It can be purchased and has a lot of information on all the surnames you mentioned.
