page 695 "In 1840 Harmon Mickell settled about seven miles south of Fort Smith...By reference to dates it will be observed that the settlement of the territory of Sebastian County began at Fort Smith in 1817, and them followed down the river' that the portion bordering on the river was first settled, and that the central and southern portion of the county was not settled to any considerable extent until after the year 1840."

Peter and Harmon Mickle were on the 1836 Montgomery County TN tax roll. Panic of 1837 closed many southern banks and people moved to Arkansas.
Harmon's first wife was Susanna Murris, b. June 3, 1832, m. 14 October 1847, died 16 Aug 1851, buried south of Cavanaugh AR on the Texas Road. They had no known children. Susanna was Choctaw. Harmon was Choctaw citizen by marriage.
Sebastian Co. AR, Greenwood District, Deed Book 9, page 536. Harmon Mickle sold to H. R. Vancleave for $250, 10 acres of the south fractional one-half Sec 8, T 7, R32, on the Choctaw line to the Texas Road, 6 Feb 1889.
