Hi Annie, I read your reply to Kim and I too think there might be a New Jersey Mickle that came to North Carolina with the "Jersey Settlement" . I am a descendent of the Mickles line of Surry and Yadkin Counties,NC.My Grandfather was Henry Howard Michael b 1868 in INdiana son of William Henry Mickle and Elizabeth Hutchins, they came to Indiana in 1860 . other researchers insist that this line of Mickles is german. But I keep remembering my Aunt Ruth (still living) being told that the origin of the name Mickles (later changes to Mikels) is Scotch-Irish. Thomas Mickle b 1810 was the son of Thomas & Elizabeth (Lyons)Mickle, William H. was his brother.Thomas was b 1769 in NC, William H was b 1799 in NC married Elizabeth "Winny" Norman.he remarried Elizabeth Casy
Archibald Mickle came to Philadephia in 1689, from Dublin Ireland. Two brothers came in 1730 from Ireland to Philadelphia they were Quakers, they were Robert & John who later settled in Adams Co., PA . I don't have any proof that they were related to Archibald. I have often wondered if John or Robert might have had a son John born abt 1725 who may have moved to North Carolina.
