NELLIE DE BRUYN, daughter of ARIE and CATHERINE DE BRUYN, was born in Pella, Iowa, July 20, l853, and departed this life May 9, l925, at the home of her daughter, MRS. F.L. BARRETT, of Leon, Iowa. At the time of her death she was 72 years, 9 months and l9 days of age.
She grew to womanhood in Pella, to which place her parents emigrated from Amsterdam, Holland. She was united in marriage to JOHN J. MINOR, March 22, l87l, and to this union were born six children: HENRY, of Lamoni, Iowa; MRS. J.E. STILL, of Pleasanton, Iowa; MRS. F.L. BARRETT, Leon, Iowa; JOHN, of Leon; and GEORGE G., of Waterloo, Iowa; and IDA, who died in infancy. She also leaves two sisters, MRS MARY MICK, Walnut, Iowa; MRS. ANNA EFFNER, Newton, Iowa; and three brothers, JOHN DE BRUYN, Lynnville, Iowa; BAKER DE BRUYN and IRA DE BRUYN, Pella, Iowa; and five grandchildren.
MRS. MINOR was of Holland descent and while very frail looking was a mother, not only in her own home, but to everyone who needed a mother's care. She was kind-hearted and loved by all who knew her, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Her husband died January 30, l906, and since then she has made her home with her daughter, MRS. BARRETT, and with her other children.
As a girl she was confirmed in the Dutch Reformed Church of Pella, and although she never transferred her membership, she was while in Leon, affiliated and worked with the Presbyterian Church here.
Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church, Monday morning, May ll, by J.E. Habliston of the Methodist Church, and burial was made at Pella, the body being taken to that place by F.S. Stewart's auto hearse.
