LIMERICK — Hazel M. Michel, 96, died Feb.19, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine
Born in Limerick,Mainea daughter of Lewis and Minnie Storer Garey, she graduated from Limerick High School, then attended Val Rio Beauty School in Portland, Maine.
She worked at the Limerick Mill for a short while. However, Mrs. Michel will best be remembered for her work as a beautician in Limerick, Maine.
In 1939 she married Alcide "Peter" Michel. She helped her husband maintain records, and do the bookkeeping for his gas station and garage.
Her husband died in 1972.
She and her husband had traveled to Canada several times.
In her spare time Mrs. Michel enjoyed making dresses, knitting, crocheting, restoring furniture and making cream puffs.
On Dec. 3, 2000, Mrs. Michel was honored with the Boston Post gold-headed cane in recognition of being the oldest resident of Limerick, Maine
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Limerick, and was described by her pastor as "a woman of great faith."
Surviving is her niece and caretaker, Mary Linwood Burnham of Portland.
Services were held previously. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home.
