This doesn't answer your question but I have a Michaux/Corpening marriage in my records.
Martha Anne Michaux, daughter of Richard Venable Michaux and Susan Forney Perkins, born 12 January 1845, died February 1925, married on 12 Sepember 1861, Charles Lucius Schieffelin Corpening, for many years Clerk of the Superior Court of McDowell County, NC and had issue per Genealogies of Virginia Families from The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Vol 4, page 354
