Hi,

John Michael is my given name oddly enough. My family came from Dauphin County. I posted a message on this page a month or so ago.

My gradfather aslo said he was scottish with a story quite similar to yours. But everything I've found about the Michael Family in PA is that they are German, although I've never proved it either way.

Most early records of Michael have german first names. If your John comes from the Harrisburg area he may be realted to my ancestor George, father of Josiah from about that time.

I believe there are also a group of Michael's from the Allentown area.

Good Luck.
