Does anyone have any conclusive evidence that Christopher Michael, who settled in Frederick County MD ca 1750, was in fact the son of Swiss explorer Franz Ludwig Michael? Many of my distant cousins have long claimed that Christopher was the son of Franz Ludwig, but none have ever come up with any evidence. (The person that they cited as the source told me over the phone that the link was just speculation on his part; there was no evidence other than a commonality of names between Christopher's children and Franz Ludwig's business associates.) I've read accounts of Franz Ludwig's explorations of America. He spent so much time exploring in America -- years at a time -- that I find it unlikely that he could have fathered four children in Switzerland.
