Azaliah Harrett, Civil War Vet, d. 1913

Azaliah Harrett was born March 15, 1828 in the Province of upper Canada. He enlisted in Company C, 13th Regiment of Michigan Infantry Veteran Volunteers on 23 Feb 1864. He was a blacksmith by trade. He was discharged at Louisville, Kentucky on 25 July 1865, and mustered out at Kalamazoo, Michigan. On 8 March 1913, he made a declaration to be placed on the pension roll of the United States as a Civil War veteran.
His declaration stated that his address was Lawton, Van Buren, Mich. On 4 Dec 1913, his pension check was returned to the Bureau of Pensions by the Postmaster at Paw Paw with the information that the pensioner had died.
The date of death was unknown. I will appreciate any assistance in locating the gravesite and death date of this veteran. Does Van Buren County have an index of civil war gravesites? If you can help, please contact me at
