Grafton P. WILLIAMS was living in Deerfield Twp, Van Buren Co., MI in 1870. He may have been the son of Heman L. WILLIAMS who died in adjacent Berrien Co., Watervliet Twp, 17 Dec. 1876, age 66 yrs 1 mo 16 days (est. b. 1810). The death record gives Heman's birthplace as Vermont and his father as Israel WILLIAMS. Well after Grafton's birth, Heman married the widow Dorliska THACKER (maiden name REMINGTON), before 1860 in Berrien Co. In 1861 Grafton was old enough to join an infantry unit in which he served till 1864, sometime after which he married Dorliska Thacker's daughter Sarah J. THACKER. The couple registered the birth of dau. Mabel A. WILLIAMS on 13 Jun 1877 in Watervliet Twp., Berrien Co. when he reported Vermont as his place of birth and New York for that of his wife. I need information on any of these people.
