Norman E. Buchanan age 80 of Marshall, MI and formerly of Decatur passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at home.
Norman was born May 8, 1924 in Holland, MI, the son of Carl and Alice (Cranmer) Buchanan. He was a former owner of the Paw Paw Laundry for 48 years, and was a stone mason and built several homes in Decatur. He was an Army veteran of WWII and was highly decorated including the Silver Star. He was a former member and past commander of VFW Celery City Post #6248 of Decatur, and a former member of the VFW in Marcellus, former member of American Legion Post #309 of Decatur, a current member of the VFW in Marshall.
He married Isabell "Iszy" Miller, July 31, 1995 in Battle Creek and she survives. Also surviving, three sons Marvin (Wilma) and Ronald (Lorna) Buchanan both of Decatur, Thomas (Remy) Buchanan of Carson City, MN, a daughter Carolyn (Patrick) Deibler of FL, step-daughter, Diane Bockelman of Marshall, nine grand children, several great grandchildren, a sister Norma Lee Northrup of Dowagiac, and three brothers Leroy Buchanan of Charlevoix, MI, Paul Buchanan of Dowagiac, and Russell Buchanan of Paw Paw.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Donna in 1986, a son Michael Buchanan, an infant daughter Dianna and a sister Rosie Hodges.
Funeral services were held Saturday. The Newell Funeral Home in Decatur was in charge of the arrangements, with Rev. Michael Heflin and Mr. James Abshagen officiating. Military rites followed in Lakeside Cemetery in Decatur, conducted by the VFW Celery City Post #6248 of Decatur. Cremation followed the services.
