I've always thought the John O'Connor listed in the 1870 census was the son of William James O'Connor and Anastasia White from Ireland born around 1828 in Taghmon Ireland. He married Margaret Ryan on 21 May 1856 and she was dead or at least missing by the 1870 census. I also thought some of his kids ended up with his siblings in later census, but I'm not finding those records tonight. Part of the reason I assumed this is that he lived next door to his sister Elizabeth and down the street from his mother Anastasia O'Connor Brown. Is this the same John O'Connor who married Mary Ann Phenix? Also I thought the Mary on the 1870 census was born in 1861.
