Jane McCardle was my gg grandmother. I found the 1851 Census in Pickering Ontario for John and Catherine listing 7 of their children (James, Isiah, Jane, Wiliam, Samuel, George and Andrew). The Sanilac Co Biographical Album of 1884 is on line thru U of M and has a bio re Andrew. It says they came from Ireland, stayed in NY for 2 yrs, moved to Canada and then to Sanilac in 1854. I found a record of them in Pickering in 1837. It also said John and Catherine had 10 kids. There is a Catherine McCardle Benedict born in 1821 in Ireland who listed John as her father. She died in 1919 in Chandler, Huron. There is a John in Metamora in 1860 who was born in NY in 1824. I can't find any more records on him. I am pretty sure he was dead by 1870. If these two are also children of John and Catherine, it would put immigration from Ireland to NY between 1821 and 1824. I know those are big "if's" but it my current working hypothesis. I can't find anyone else who fits for being kids of theirs. James was born around 1829 in Ontario so they were there by then. Hope this answers some questions.
