St. Joseph and Berrien County MI

Most of the research links on the Berrien County site do not work. I had ancestors listed in the census in Berrien County, and are so noted before 1860. At what point did White Pigeon Prairie township move from St. Joseph to Berrien or Berrien to St. Joseph.

Trying to sort these things out. I know they were in Michigan here until the summer of 1857, just stumped how this all evolved.
Thanks Greg
