Birth place confusion

I am searching for the birth place of my grandfather: JOHN GUSTAVE UPPLING. His death certificate has his birth place listed as Presque Isle, MAINE. I have not been able to find such a place in Maine. So I am going out on a limb and thinking maybe the records are wrong. He is suppose to have been born May 31, 1905 or possibly the 30th. He also thought for some time that he was born in 1910. Any information would be greatly appreciated
