Hi. I'm trying to trace my Allen family tree, hope someone here can help. I'm a descendant of Charles H Allen b:1830 St. Lawrence, NY, m:1853 NY to Almira Heaton b:1834 NY d:1879 Ottawa, MI.
Charles H Allen started his family to Norfolk, St. Lawrence, NY, moved to Wisconsin in 1864, then to Tallmadge, Ottawa, MI in 1865. When Charles H Allen came to Ottawa from St. Lawrence, he came with his family, his mother in-law, and I think the entire family of his son in-law (Henry C Salton b:1845 NY m:1869 MI to Alma Allen b:1857 NY d:1879 MI).
Among Charles H Allen's children: Franklin b:1856 NY, Alma b:1857 NY, Harriet b:1859 NY, Bertha b:1864 WI, Mary b:1865 MI, Carrie b:1871 MI, and Charles Sumner Allen b:1873 MI (my great grandfather).
I suspect Charles H Allen came from Wisconsin on the iron ore ship, to farm and work at the Fruitport foundry. I also suspect either he or my great grandfather ran iron ore up to Cadillac, so by 1900 the Allen family had moved up to the Cadillac and Luther, Lake county area.
I'm looking for any information to help fill out my tree. I have no idea, for example, when Charles H Allen died or where he was buried. I know Almira died in July 1879, somewhere in Ottawa, but no idea which cemetery.
As for Franklin Allen, I see a Frank Allen in the 1900/1910 Allendale census. That Frank moved out to Imperial, California with his family. No idea whether that Frank is the son of my Charles H Allen.
Any information would be greatly appreciated...Dennis
