Coopersville Observer, Jan. 26, 1894

Catherine M. Mouroe Cournyer was born in St. Lawrence County, New York, on the 21st of March, 1826, and died at her home in Coopersville, Ottawa County, Michigan on the 15th of Jan., 1894. When quite young she moved with her parents to Canada, where she formed the acquaintance of Mr. Cuthbert Cournyer, to whom she was married at Montreal in the spring of 1848. A few years after their marriage, they moved to St. Lawrence County, N. Y., and in 1857, they moved to Causecan, Ontario, Canada. In 1857, they moved to Spring Lake, Ottawa County, Mich., where they lived about two years. They next moved to Lamont and lived there about a year. In 1860, they moved to Jericho, in this county, where they lived till the spring of 1867, then moved to Coopersville where they lived till the time of her death.
She was the mother of nine children, five sons and four daughters. One of the daughters died when a child, and another, Mrs. Carrie Ferrand, died about two years ago; still seven of the children to mourn their loss. Early in life, she became a Christian and joined the M. E. Church. Her funeral was conducted at the M. E. Church by the Rev. J. W. Buell and Geo. Varion. On that occasion, a large number of friends and neighbors was present to pay their last tribute of respect to the remains of one, whom they respected and loved.
