SAMUEL H. WOODS was born in New London, Conn., February 29, 1840. His father was SAMUEL HENRY WOODS, his mother ELIZA LA PIERRE. He was one of a family of ten children, five of whom still live in Iowa or California.
In 1857 [may be 1867] the family moved from Connecticut to Iowa, where they took up land near to Sigourney. The old homestead is now occupied by the youngest son.
In 1870, SAMUEL WOODS came to Michigan driving a team of oxen. He remained for a time, then went back east. Later he came back and married MARY WALLING in 1874. To this union were born two daughters, EVELYN and IMOGENE, who still survive.
[From the Coopersville Observer, dated Dec. 9, 1921 at the Northeast Ottawa Library archives]
