Thank you for the look up.

It's possible that Jannes changed his name to James
but the ones you found are to young.

Jannes Nie(u)wenhuis is born in 1838 in the Netherlands.
He emigrated with his family in 1882.
I found he was a US citizen via a ship manifest when he
had visited the Netherlands.
Unfortunally it didn't give the exact year or place of naturalisation just that it was in Ottawa Co.
So I was happy when I found a Jannes Niewenhuis
in the naturalisation index.
He didn't stay in MI,he moved to South Dakota and
died in 1915.

I'll investigate the James Newhouse you found they may
be family.
