What Happened in Coopersville in the year 1916, a chronological supplement to the Coopersville Observer, Jan. 5, 1917 taken from my great grandmother, GOLDIE IVES HARPER WILCOX's scrapbook.

JANUARY
7-DR. J.S. WALLING appointed postmaster of the Coopersville post office by President Wilson.
8-Mrs. GEORGE FEIGHNER died, aged 90 years
10-Mrs. HARRIET SMITH died, aged 87 years.
13-HAMLIN PLATT, supervisor of Polkton Township died, aged 57 years
15-Mr. and Mrs. WM. KNOWLTON celebrate their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary.
17-LEWIS TURNER died, aged 82 years.
19-Fire in the MARSHALL residence occupied by Mrs. LUCY GATES.
19-WM. BAILARD died, aged 85 years.
23-Mrs. THERON EMMONS died, aged 75 years.
25-Born to Mr. and Mrs. WALTER O'BRIEN, a girl.
25-Born to Mr. and Mrs. LEON REYNOLDS, a boy.
27-Born to Mr. and Mrs. RAY HARD, a boy.
29-JOHN BOUSER, manager of Conklin Creamery, committed suicide, aged 45 years.
31-PEARL PHILLIPS, broke his left leg, below the knee, playing basketball.

FEBRUARY
1-A.C. DECKER, of Keokuk, Iowa, traveling salesman died on interurban car goig east, between Nunica and Coopersville, on the train due here at 11:37 a.m.
4-Mrs. FRANK M. KIEHLS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. DAVID LILLIE died in Grand Rapids.
5-Mrs. RAY RICE died, aged 33 years
11-Mrs. JAMES MULDER'S farm residence destroyed by fire.
14-O.G. MAXFIELD'S residence destroyed by fire.
16-Mrs. WM. B. PARKHURST died in Spring Lake, aged 71 years.
18-HIRAM AMES died in Grand Rapids, aged 78 years.
19-At the Republican caucus for Village offices, the following ticket was nominated. President, M. DURHAM; clerk, H.W. ERWIN; treasurer, J.S.SCHREUDER; assessor, O.G. MAXFIELD; trustees, CHAS. P. LILLIE, F.E. SLATER, and B.T. FRAST. JOHN MOONEY, HENRY LAKE, and LEON IVES were appointed to act as committee for ensuing year.
22-Marriage of EARL AVERILL and Miss VERA VanALLBURG.
27-Mrs. FRANKLIN COLE died, aged 82 years.

MARCH
1-Mrs. ELIZABETH WILEY died in Grand Rapids, aged 69 years.
3-WM. GLYNN, aged 24 years, committed suicide.
8-Born to Mr. and Mrs. FRANK M. STEVENS, a girl.
10-Mrs. C. H. BEMENT died, aged 78 years.
11-At the Republican township caucus the following officers were nominated: Supervisor, H. H. AVERILL; Clerk, JOHN LILLIE; treasurer, HARM LAUG JR.; justice of the peace, SIMON LIEFFERS; justice of the peace to fill vacancy, FRED J. YOUNG; member board of review, F. W. TURNER; highway commissioner, HOYT A. TAYLOR; constables, THEODORE EISTEDT, FRED ELBERS, PAUL MASTENBROOK, and FRANK MOONEY. J.H. TerAVEST, H. H. MOONEY and A. H. BUSMAN were appointed to act as committee for the ensuing year.
11-MITCHELL WOODWARD and Miss ESTHER GOLDEN married in Owosso.
12-Mrs. AMOS TAYLOR died, aged 69 years.
17-THOMAS H. McCARTHY, aged 77 years, fell down an open elevator shaft in the Fourth National Bank building in Grand Rapids, resulting in his death.
17-JOHN GILHESPY of Chester township died, aged 88 years.
19-Mrs. S.M. LARTNAM died at North Park, aged 80 years.
20-EUGENE D. HARDY, colored, music teacher, expired while running to catch train at Byron Center.
22-J.W. SCOTT and Miss FERN HARRIS married.
22-Born to Mr. and Mrs. CORNELIUS GRANSTRA, a girl.
23-SAMUEL BACHE died in Grand Haven, aged 74 years.
24-Mrs. GEORGE BURLINGAME died in Grand Rapids, aged 66 years.
25-Born to Mr. and Mrs. RAYMOND NICHOLS, a girl.
25-ELLIS PECK and Miss MINA MESSENGER married.
31-AMBROSE LAKE died, aged 87 years.
31-Mr. and Mrs. HARM LAUG celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

APRIL
1-Mrs. A.A. BURGESS died in Jacksonville, Fla. and was buried here on April 5th.
2-Mrs. SARAH HENDRICKS, age 64 years, of Fruitport, committed suicide by jumping in Norris Creek.
3-Mr. and Mrs. LEVI STAMP celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
4-Born to Mr. and Mrs. J.G. HOYT, at Many, La., a girl.
5-Born to Mr. and Mrs. KARL LAKE, twin boys.
6-Mr. and Mrs. HARM VEENEMAN celebrate their 5th. wedding anniversary.
8-Mrs. CARRIE GRAVES died, aged 70 years.
8-Born to Mr. and Mrs. JOHN H. TerAVEST, a boy.
12-RAYMOND G. IRISH and Miss ORA DANIELS were married in Grand Rapids.
18-Born to Mr. and Mrs. JOHN ROTMAN, a boy.
20-Mrs. ARTHUR KENDALL received a Laurel range from the Durham Hardware Company in their stove sale.
20-JOHN GOLDEN died, aged 70 years.
20-Mrs. HARM VEENEMAN died.
27-Mrs. WILLIAM EISTEDT died at the home of her son, THEODORE, aged 73 years, 24 days.
28-Death of ANSOL LUTHER, father of Mrs. BARNEY LUBBEN at Hastings, aged 80 years.
